East Dean and Friston
Hello all,
Tomorrow, October 14, is the last day of support by Microsoft for its
Windows 10 operating system. This does not mean that PCs running it will
suddenly stop working but does mean no more security patches or updates. Any
kind of online activity, especially banking or purchasing (Amazon? Ebay?)
but also just ordinary 'surfing' will become increasingly vulnerable as
hackers will certainly be specifically targeting users of Win 10
At the moment it is still possible to 'upgrade' to Windows 11 free of
charge although many perfectly good computers will not take the upgrade. The
transition and new environment are not particularly easy and some
application programs that ran under Win 10 will not work under Win 11. This
can be a challenge: I have several PCs of my own to manage and also I help
various friends and relatives - so I know this all too well.
If you use an Apple Mac you don't have to worry unless running a Windows
emulator within.
There you go: forewarned is forearmed!
