Sunday fixtures June update


Southwick Wanderers CC – East Dean made a steady start with M. Hutchins and A. Deller-Merricks putting on a very steady 50 partnership.

 J. Woodford and M. Pankhurst scored quick runs on a slow outfield to put on a very competitive score.


After tea, East Dean bowled well in patches and kept on taking wickets although Southwick Wanderers kept up with the asking rate. Nick Leigh was the “game changer” with 2 wickets in an over, including their top scorer.


ED CC – 175 (A. Deller-Merricks 59, G. Bijlani 35) SWCC 141-9 (M. Pankhurst 3 wickets,

Chalvington and Ripe CC - On an overcast afternoon, Chalvington and Ripe CC got off to a good start with 18 runs coming off first 4 overs. However, Henry Branson took his first wicket for East Dean in his first game before M. Huchins spectacularly stopped a ball with his foot, casually collected the rebound and threw down the stumps from a tight angle to runout their best batsman. Game suddenly changed and with steady loss

 of wickets and decent bowling from the home team, away team finished on 80 all out. After a lovely tea which included 7 different fruits, East Dean got off to a slow but steady start and put on 42 for the first wicket. Quick runs form M. Evenden and M. Pankhurst helped finish the game before

5 pm with 24 overs remaining.

 St. James’s Montefiore CC – St. James’s Montefiore fielded a weakened side (according to their captain) on a blistering summer afternoon. Their opening batsman played straight and got off to a positive start. Both their opening batsman retired after scoring their 100’s. Visitors ended the timed game with a score of 249-1 in 35 overs.


East Dean welcomed 2 new Cricketer’s to the Sunday outfit, George Barry and Jaspal Singh.


After a lovely tea, East Dean got off to a positive start with A. Deller-Merricks and M. Evenden putting on 49 for the first wicket in 9 overs.

Alfie Fieldsend provided the on-field entertainment. Home team lost a few wickets in a cluster until Dan Narracott decided to flex his muscles and score 37 off 15 balls. East Dean finished with a respectable score of 214-8 in 41 overs.


SJM CC – 249-1   ED CC 214-8 (G. Bijlani 41, D. Narracott 37*, G. Barry 30*)

Exiles CC Against Exiles CC at University of Sussex, Falmer site, East Dean and Friston fielded first. Home side started off slowly but build the momentum to finish

on 198-6 off 40 overs. East Dean and Friston CC had a terrible batting collapse and finished on 98. C. Parfitt hit some valuable runs to reduce the deficit.

Saturday fixtures June update

Ditchling CC – On a sunny Saturday afternoon, East Dean were put into bat on a good batting wicket. Opposition bowling was tight. At one point, we were 57-4. “Sensible” Chisholm played the most measured innings of the season and put on partnerships with each of the lower order batsman

to help team reach a respectable total of 211-9, finishing on 109*. After a lovely tea, home team started with caution against a measured bowling attack of C. Chisholm and S. Perry. At one point, they had 13 runs off 11 overs. East Dean took wickets at regular intervals but the home team was content on playing for a draw.  Game finished at 8 pm.


ED CC 211-9 (C. Chisholm 109*),    DCC 158-8 (Each of the bowlers took 2 wickets each).

Firle CC – Against our bogey team, the first 4 overs fetched the away team 20 runs. However, after a flurry of runs in the first few overs,

Firle CC lost wickets steadily. In trying to take a quick second run, their best batsman took a chance on C. Chisholm’s arm only to be run out off

 a spectacular direct hit from the boundary. Away team finished on 52 all out. With a small target to chase, O. Ody hit good shots to finish on 40* and help the home team reach the target with 36 overs left.

Laughton CC – On a sunny Saturday afternoon, East Dean fielded on a hot summer afternoon. Home team lost early wickets but steadily kept scoring runs. With 2 of their top 5 batsman scoring 50’s, they finished on a respectable score of 228 in 48 overs. N. Gamble finally decided to bowl and ended up with 2 wickets. T. Preston bowled very well to claim 6 wicket haul on his birthday.


After tea, East Dean did not get to a good start. Losing regular wickets, ED limped to 117-8 when M. Loe gave admirable support to “Steady” Preston. In the end, we got bowled out but we managed to earn 15 away points.

putting on important first and second wicket partnership with J. FrancisRobertsbridge CC – On a rainy Saturday afternoon, after much deliberation

 on whether the game should start,  a 20/20 game was agreed. “Beefy” Ody scored more in boundaries than in singles, finishing with

63 off 42 deliveries and  and C. Chisholm. With runs from top 4 and good running between wickets, East Dean finished with 172-6 in 20 overs. After a quick turnaround, East Dean started bowling to tight lines and kept runs under check and took regular wickets.  were put into bat on a good batting wicket.

  Big Bash T20 competition

Against Eastbourne development side, East Dean and Friston CC restricted the opposition to 100 and scored the runs with plenty of overs to spare. East Dean topped their group.

Club improvements – If you have any ideas of improving the way club is run or if you have any issues that you would like discussed, please raise the issue with your Captain and the issue will be discussed at the committee meeting.



Player availability – Like you, team captain also works full time so the less they have to chase you for availability, the better it is for the club. Please get in touch with the captain to let them know about your availability as soon as you make your holiday plans or have weekend plans.
