Community Bus begins new service

New routes and times from Tuesday June 21

The East Dean & Friston Community Bus Service 41, provided by Cuckmere Community Bus Ltd, has been running a service around our village and to and from Eastbourne every Tuesday since October 5th 2010. This will continue - but with new routes and timing. The new service will start from Tuesday June 21st.

Changes include:

1. Three services a day to and from Eastbourne (previously just one).


2. Additional stops in Peak Dean Lane.


3. Higher fares to cover the much higher cost of diesel, which you will know has risen to record prices at the pumps over the past year. However, your bus pass is still valid for FREE travel.


4. A new target threshold of 23 passengers a day (all journeys, bus pass plus paying passengers). The Community Bus is subsidised, and the drivers are all voluntary, so we cannot run buses that are nearly empty. Use it or Lose it!

Shopping stops include Downlands Way and the Village Green in East Dean; Waitrose en route to Eastbourne; and the Arndale Centre and Terminus Road in Eastbourne. Now you can go to town in the morning and return just before mid-day or later in the afternoon. You can also ride to Downlands Way and return home at 11:52 with your shopping.

• The Barn Stores has just had a makeover under its new management and is offering Community Bus passengers and residents a new shopping experience


• Frith and Little delicatessen on the village green now serve special sandwiches and cakes with gourmet coffees at its snack tables
